Frequently Asked Questions

Why did you leave the relationship between Iris and Patrick
(Kissing in the Dark) hanging? Is she going to marry him, or not?
Will Rebecca and Adam have their own book? Is Anna (Lips That
Touch Mine) ever going to get a man for herself? I've been waiting
and waiting and waiting for your next book. What the heck is
taking so long?
o
WL: Hey, I planned to have a dozen books written by now, but well...I
got sick. While writing my last two Grayson books I spiraled into chronic
fatigue syndrome. Although I dabbled with a few projects over the last several
years, I just didn't have the energy or the focus to write a book - until now. I'm
as eager as you to see another Grayson book completed and released.
Thankfully, I'm back in good health and planning the next book with my sister,
who will be teaming up with me on this one.
Do you have any new books coming out?
o
WL: Please visit my NEWS page to see what I'm working on and when
my next book will be released.
Are your books connected in a series?
o
WL: There are currently four books in the Grayson Brothers series, but
I'm still writing them and hope to have another book available soon. Each
book is a complete novel unto itself, so you can read them in any order.
Chronologically, this is the sequence so far:
The Grayson Brothers series:
1. Shades of Honor
2. The Longing
3. Lips That Touch Mine
4. Kissing in the Dark
Where do you get your ideas?
o
WL: My first book was inspired by a Civil War memoir. For me, book
ideas are everywhere. I only wish I had the time to turn all my ideas into
books.
How did you start writing?
o
WL: I fell in love with LaVyrle Spencer's historical romance novels and I
wished I could write stories with that same depth of emotion. My first attempt
at storytelling was to write the opening scene of a novel as an assignment for
my English comp class at SUNY University at Fredonia. My professor,
Melinda Wendell, told me I had a voice for storytelling and encouraged me to
finish the story and that she hoped to see it on the bookstore shelf one day
(Thank you, Professor Wendell!). I never did finish that story, but I journaled
consistently and began to discover my writing voice. In the messy,
handwritten pages of my journal, a story idea began to form. While
researching the period I planned to set my story in, I came across a Civil War
memoir by George K. Collins, titled "The 149th NY Volunteers..." I knew I'd
found the premise for my first book Shades of Honor. I eventually sent a copy
of my first published book to Professor Wendell with a letter thanking her for
inspiring and encouraging me to write.
Do you ever base your characters on real people?
o
WL: No. All my characters (with the exception of historical figures) are a
creation of my imagination. Any resemblance to real people is purely
coincidental.
Have you always been a writer?
o
WL: No. I worked a day job while writing my first two books. My last
job was as an account manager (aka sales rep) selling tool steels and other
metal products to manufacturers. I've also worked as a travel agent,
bookkeeper, and a waitress. My favorite job? Writing!
Would you be willing to read or critique my novel?
o
WL: No.
How did you get interested in tai chi and karate?
o
WL: Like all adventures, there are certain times in a person's life when
they have to embrace the unknown and leap! Awards and success are no
excuse to stop challenging yourself to grow. After struggling through years of
chronic fatigue syndrome, I challenged myself to get healthy and physically fit
again. I began tai chi two years ago then moved into kickboxing a few months
later and eventually into karate and combat fitness. I'm happy to say that I've
earned an Orange Belt in A.K.T. Karate and have returned to vibrant health.
